New Paths, New Partnerships

Wildland fire in Canada is becoming increasingly challenging.  With several successive years of more extreme fire behaviour and complex wildland-urban fire, incidents in many provinces and territories are escalating.

The Wildland Fire Canada conference is an opportunity for wildland fire operations and science specialists to meet, give and hear presentations from a range of perspectives.  As a result, it fosters discussions about improving how we plan for and respond to wildland fires.  The conference is a great way to build community with your colleagues and friends from across the country.

Titled New Paths, New Partnerships, the theme for the conference is designed to bring our diverse organizations together to discuss innovative solutions to complex problems. The conference sub-themes are:

  • Collaborative strategies and shared learning:  focuses on local, regional and national collaborations in wildfire research, strategic planning, and fire management operations.  Case studies such as best practices or ‘lessons learned’ from fire operations, planning and research are examples.
  • Implementing success:  is dedicated to the tools, policies, technologies and methods for achieving fire management objectives.
  • Fire processes and complexity:  concentrates on describing, predicting and prescribing fire processes and interactions.
  • Living and working with fire:  addresses the social, economic, occupational and human dimensions of fire.

In addition, the conference will be a chance to learn from each other’s experiences and projects while developing new collaborative relationships.  Leveraging our shared knowledge and resources, we strive as a community to continually improve our services, knowledge and skills.

We hope you can join us at Wildland Fire Canada 2019 in Ottawa on November 18-21, 2019.  Check back soon for more details!
